Ready For The Season!

I am ready for lax season!

I don’t know about all of you, but this weather has been making me itch to get outside and throw around.  There is a lot of dirt showing up at the bowl so it has been getting harder and harder to force myself to go up there.  I have already started to kayak and now I am ready to start running and playing some lax.   Not sure if many of you have seen it but I got a new stick for this coming season recently so I have been messing around with it a bunch. I am pretty happy with the way the dye job and pocket came out, still just tweaking the shooting strings as it breaks in.

Hopefully all of you have been working on your sticks and getting them ready for the season, because it starts this week.  It’s going to be great to get out on that field and throw around three or four afternoons a week.  JV players need to be hitting the wall.  We are not going to be spending our practices working on how to catch and throw. I expect you to do that on your own time.

Also for any Varsity players that are over 18, men’s league is coming up.  It is $45 for 8 games!  You can almost double the number of games you have played for $45.  Signups are down at Maulers Hockey Central and there is a fan page on Facebook.  Games will start April 8th and be every Thursday night starting at six thirty.  Sign up soon so you can play against your coaches.  It’s going to be a fun recreational league with a fair amount of beginners and experienced players alike.

See you guys on the field soon!

I don’t know about everyone else, but my winter break has just flown by.  I guess that’s what happens when you spend almost all your free time snowboarding.  I’ve had a great break. I think I have been up at Snow Bowl twenty days out of the past thirty or so. I’m pretty sure Tanner and Jamie have been up there almost as much as I have this break.  I also ran into Dane, Lance and Cody along with their ski club a few times and almost had to jump start their truck for them.  Fortunately they figured out how to get it going.

When I’m not up at the Bowl I have been working the University’s Outdoor Program which isn’t nearly as much fun, but you have to make some money somewhere. One of my new favorite things to do this winter has been ice hockey.  I played in CA until I was 15 or so, but had not played until just a few months ago.  I’m not going to lie to you, it’s pretty funny to watch me skate around and fall.  Most of the stick skills have transferred over from LAX, but I cannot stop without smashing into the boards full speed.  So far I am tied for the lead in goals scored on my team, mostly because I fall over and confuse the goalie before scoring.  It has been nice to play a team sport again and enjoy the comradery and competition.  Being a part of a team is something special and I hope all of you can make the most of it while you have the chance both with MEL and with your college teams.

I definitely encourage any of you that will be eligible to come out and play Men’s League Lax with us in the future. That’s all for now, see you at the Bowl.
